In the construction of modern urban architecture, there is a growing trend towards using ecological solutions, one example of which is: green roofs. This particular type of roofing consists of several layers, the main task of which is to retain rainwater and pre-filter it. For this reason, green roofs fit perfectly into activities involving small water retention and sustainable rainwater management in cities. They can function independently, or be one element of a larger system.

What are green roofs?

Simply put, it is a roof where natural ground conditions have been recreated to allow the cultivation of plants. Green roof structures can take various forms, depending on the load limit, pitch, waterproofing, and area of the roof. Extensive green roofs which are covered with low plants, are low in terms of both vegetation and maintenance, are relatively light, and their thickness is rather small. Intensive green roofs can resemble real gardens planted with a variety of vegetation: from mosses and shrubs, to some tree species. These roofs are thick and heavy, and require irrigation and regular maintenance.

Why is it worth using green roofs in cities?

WUse of rainwater – a green roof is able to retain up to 90 percent of rainwater (and pre-filter it), and the average water retention ranges from 50 to 60 percent;
Improving the urban climate – green roofs mitigate the urban heat island effect, increase air humidity and oxygenation, and reduce air pollution (they bind dust and absorb gases);
Additional places for relaxation – properly designed green roofs, especially on office buildings, shopping malls, and other large-scale buildings, can be unique places to rest and relax;
Unique aesthetic values - greenery on roofs helps to create a characteristic style and ambiance for urban developments, distinguishing them among thousands of others;
ignificant energy savings – green roofs provide additional insulation to buildings: they reduce heat losses in winter, and protect against excessive heating in summer.

We make various types and styles of green roofs, (along with the comprehensive implementations of small water retention investments), for cities where green roofs are part of a complete retention, filtration, and hydrological system. We have experienced experts in this field that can advise on the selection of the most cost-effective solutions which are tailored to the investor’s expectations and the possibilities of a given area.
